About Me

My photo
I retired after completing 38 years as a law enforcement officer in the State of Florida. I began my law enforcement career with the City of Miami, where I served for nearly 27 years before serving with a state agency for 11 1/2 years (part of that time as Interim Inspector General). During my career with Miami I worked in uniform patrol, the detective bureau, and the 911 center. I was also a member of the first law enforcement crew to respond to New York City on September 11, 2001. From January 2007 to April 2011 I also served as a commissioner on the state commission that governs the certification of law enforcement, correctional and probation officers in the state. I am a Past President of the Florida State Lodge Fraternal Order of Police (President 2004-2006); I was an employee representative with Miami FOP Lodge #20 for almost 21 years (6 years serving at the Chief Steward). I have worked on legislative issues at all levels, worked on political screening committees. I’m a past member of the Dade County Republican Executive Committee, and have been an advisor/ law enforcement liaison for a presidential candidate..

I'm back!

I have been away from the “blogosphere” for some time and haven’t posted any articles, my absence was a self-imposed hiatus.  There are a few reasons for that, I was busy with work and family.  I didn't feel that it would be right for me to comment at the time on some issues because of my job, but if I were to be completely honest I also needed a break.

As I said way back in 2009 when I first ventured in to blogs I talked about why I was starting this blog, one of the reasons was my hopes of creating a dialog and exchange of various points of view.  Back in 2012 my brother and I got into some intense exchanges during the political season, some had suggested that we consider doing podcasts (my brother Tom had started doing blog casts on Spreaker).  The problem was that although Tom and I disagreed on many things we respected each other’s opinion, things had gotten so nasty with people that there were no longer an exchange of ideas.  It seemed that one didn’t have a right to their own opinion, instead of debating people resorted to personal attacks.  If you didn’t agree it was because you were racist, or sexist, or worse if that is possible.  I put on hold blogging, or doing video posts or podcasts, like I said I needed a break.

Within the past two months I began posting responses to things I saw on Facebook, then I thought the time was right for me to dip my toe back in the water, so here I go!

This first rant is actually a post I made on Facebook last week, I’ve been on vacation the past couple of weeks and helping my girlfriend who had been in the hospital for surgery and during that time I had shut down the social media involvement (just so parts will make sense).

E-books have certainly helped pass the time the past 2 weeks, but during the past couple of days I've been getting back into the swing of things watching talk shows and keeping up with the news.

First I'm sick of all the talk about the mid-term elections. The results weren't unique to President Obama, if you look back at every 2 term president during the past century you will find that the same thing has happened to them. Instead of believing that this was specifically or uniquely a vote against the President Congress and the Administration should truly open their eyes and realize that the American public is sick and tired of the us vs them or the all or nothing attitudes. Republicans need to remember what has happened in the past 20 years, when they became the majority and ran their agenda instead of the American people’s agenda they were voted out of the majority. By the same token the Democrats need to remember what has happened this week so that when they take the majority again the Majority Leader doesn't keep legislation from a vote, allow legislation to come to the floor so The Peoples Representatives can debate and vote on them.

Congress is supposed to be the people’s representatives NOT the Democrat or Republican Party representative. Try talking with each other instead of at one another and you will accomplish more, just look at LBJ and Bill Clinton, when both sides talked with one another and worked together a lot was accomplished. Oh, and let’s not forget "Tip" O’Neil and Ronald Reagan, they disagreed with a lot of each other’s political philosophy but worked together to accomplish a lot (including the program that is now commonly remembered as "the Obama phone").

One last thought, as I was driving back and forth to the hospital last week to visit Armelle I listened to satellite radio, there were broadcasts of programs from when George W. Bush was in office. What these broadcasts showed was that when people say that no other President has been disrespected as much as President Obama and that this is because he is an African American they don't know what they are talking about (either because they weren't interested in politics or involved before). There was also a lot of nasty things said and disrespect shown towards President Clinton. The disrespect is because he is the sitting President. And while I'm on that subject, I may not agree with President Obama's policies or positions on subjects but he is still my President and I am disgusted when I see some of the things said about him or the First Lady (always have with other First Ladies). You may not like the First Lady or the President and criticize their positions on things but that is no reason for the personal attacks.

That’s My Opinion, What’s Yours
